Dear Michel Kramer,
I hope you received my photos, so you can see what kind of bamboo installations I'm used to make. Most of them are build interactively with other people: amateurs just helping for one or more days. I understood that this is also a reason why you want to work with me for the Latin America Pavilion. I can make large structures with only bamboo poles of 305 cm and a diameter of 24/26 mm. The connections are made with rubber bands: they are very strong and safe to use. The only problem (in this case, because most projects I do are just for a short period) is UV-rays from sunshine: they will ruin the rubber in 3 months. But we can avoid this by using other materials to cover it, like tape or sisal rope.
For this expo I understand everything should be build very safe: that's why I suggest using the bamboo arcades as you can see on the drawing. I have enough experience with these constructions to know that they are strong enough to use for this purpose. And we can connect them, so they can support each other. The size depends to the length of the bamboo. When we use 10 feet's they will be 13 meters height, nearly 12 meter wide and 2,5 meters depth. Depending to the intention you have with this pavilion, I can imagine a squared construction of these arcades in which we can place round circus tents with 14 meter of diameter. They can be very colourful and connected to each other, so visitors can walk around.
Yours sincerely,
Antoon Versteegde
