Let's build TARGETS at both sides of the wall...
Koncentricni krugovi - Projekat 2

Koncentricni krugovi - Projekat 2
Concentric circles - Project 2For the first international open-air exhibition since the bombing of Belgrade, Antoon Versteegde placed, with the help of young people citizens of Belgrade, two huge bamboo circles. In this way he created a multicultural land art project to enable direct exchange of artistic experience between countries with different history and development of land art movements. The bamboo constructions became 12 meter of height and were placed at both sides of the Ada Ciganija Lake opposite of each other. The streaming water forms a natural boundary and the reflection in the water doubles the opposed circle and inspires human fantasies. The bamboo constructions got a textile target in the middle, specially made in a factory for parachutes. The target figures as a sing present in Serbian recent history but also points towards an interactive communication between those who are involved. Terrible things happened over the last ten years and all survivors have bad memories nowadays, but life goes on and we have to communicate and making art and fun again. Asking ordinary people to help him Antoon Versteegde build the wheels on the city beach to face recreating and swimming people with sign of target, not liked amongst local people, but through art maybe overpass.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Main goal of the project:
Our main goal is to enable direct exchange of artistic experience between countries with different history and development of land art movements, to create a multicultural project.
Also, one of goals within this project is to find a way that the art works influence the citizens living in the area with a high population density.Motives for starting the project:
Ada lake was created as a sportive centre. It was one of last nature oasis in Belgrade. Last ten years it's image changed a lot. Ada Lake became place for criminals with cars, with a lot of bars. With this international project we want to bring back normal image of Ada and at the same time to start to create trough art works new relation of visitors of Ada towards nature.
Land art projects are usually presented through documentation (photos, videos...), which result in that, that they are known only to limited groups of art professionals.
Situating this project in urban environment we will reach much wider audience, we will enrich the lake and surrounding park, change it's image from last ten years, experience new approaches toward land art that derive from different cultural backgrounds and improve ecological consciousness of the citizens as well as their sense for the aesthetics.
At the same time we want to establish the most serious attempt on international land art field of collaboration. The isolation of our art scene, which has last for a decade, brought the ineffective communication with current European trends in art. This project is, in one way, the ultimatum for increasing the quality of the future artwork in Serbia.Description of the project:
Our idea was to try through art to deal with question that exists in our society. We think that ordinary people through artwork and involvement in it could better accept some political problems.
Punctum for art experiment invited artist from Holland and Sweden (as countries where the land art practice is reach) to do their projects in the park of Ada Ciganlija Lake, along with few Serbian artists. All projects analyse questions about media, advertising, politic and our recent history in Serbia. Projects did by foreign artists threat not only the real space of the lake but also context of living in Serbia and its recent history. Serbian artists in their works used concept of image, reflection, screen that could be reflection of our being and exciting in Serbia last years, too.Antoon Versteegde (Holland)
Koncentricni krugovi- projekat 2 / Concentric circles-Project 2
He will place bamboo circles at both sides of the lake opposite to each other. The water forms a natural boundary and the reflection in the water doubles the opposed circle. The bamboo wheels have target in the middle. Target as a sing present in Serbian recent history. For him target represents an interactive communication between those who are involved. Terrible things happened, we all have bad memories, but life goes on and we have to communicate and make art and fun again. Asking ordinary people to help him built wheels he will face them with sign of target, not liked amongst local people, but through art maybe overpass.Ingrid Falk and Gustavo Aguerre (Sweden)
Their idea is to use material, which are usually used to forbid passing through, such as protection fences for construction spaces. With that material they will build construction that could be passed by. They will make frontiers that are open, by twisting the use and meaning of such protective materials. In one part of Europe the frontiers disappeared but in other part of Europe policy of visas and limitation of travelling are still present.
Snezana Skoko (Serbia)
Her idea is to place "clothe screens" in the different places in order to catch exciting shadows. These "clothe screens" are corresponding to advertising billboards and electronic screens, but without trade message. Their message is real nature picture. We are "bombed " with commercial message in new cities; billboards became common image of all cities, from which we derived out nature. By these "clothe screens" she is bringing back image of nature.
Dragana Markovic (Serbia)
In European art history we had reach landscape painting practice, where artists tried to paint very realistic water in landscape. Her concept is to do "water" in a material, which has in itself reality and nature of water such as mirror. She will make a "mirror flower" field opposite to real water of lake. This is not only picture of water but have in itself reality of water. On the other hand mirror represent for us always moment of reflection and confrontation with our self. In the mirror the nature confront with it self but also people with their history, being, future.
Zolt Kovac (Serbia)
His concept is to exhibit camouflage textile use in military purpose, but in form of canvas. Like paintings are presented in the gallery, he will present these canvases in nature, where they were assuming not to be seen easily. The material, which was created to be hide in nature change it's meaning, it will be exhibit to be seen. Camouflage canvases also bring back the memory of solders presented at Ada Lake during the bombing.
This project is aiming to enhance the future cooperation between the participants from different environments through joint projects. Aside the activities within the realization of art works in the park, all participants will have joint meetings and discussions with Serbian artists and art historians about new forms of artistic cooperation and new context of land art.
The results of the project will be presented to the public in different forms: at the open-air exhibition in the park, as well as through public debates, discussion, publications and web site.Concerning the exposed concept of the project we can define the following expectations:
- the new landscape as well as a new image of the park
- direct exchange of the artistic experiences
- establishing the consistent and continuing communication channel between the participants, and in that way enhancing the future joint projects
- basis for the quality and continuing future land art development in Serbia
- informing and educating (concerning ecological consciousness and aesthetics) a large scope of public with the results of the project through the exhibition, public debates, discussions, publications, mass media
As a long-term goal this project should initiate the future cooperation in land art between artists from different parts of Europe and contribute to the establishment of the international land art network.
